'The Engine Cries No More'

ROUND 2 SUMMARY - TOMMO#21

Oulton Park Bennetts British Superbike Championship, Quattro Group British Supersport championship

Saturday: FP1 - DNS FP2 - P33

Sunday: Qualifying - P30 Race 1 - DNF [engine blow up]

Monday: Warm up - DNS Race 2 - DNS

Silverstone then Oulton Park for rounds 1 & 2 were always going to be tough, but words can’t describe how hard the start of this year has been.

Things started to look up during qualifying this weekend having got up into P12 by the end of my first 7 lap stint, but missing 2nd gear during my two fast laps in the second stint saw me tumble down the order. I tried for a third flying lap but caught the checkered flag by a couple of second.

Then onto the Sunday sprint race where I barely made it to turn 3 on the first lap when the engine let go.

It’s been such a difficult start to 2022, with problems which simply couldn’t have been foreseen or fixed in a timely manner without an entire spare bike in pieces being sat in the trailer together with the vast amount of other kit and equipment we carry around. I’ve had some lows in racing but this run of bad luck is something else! Yet in perspective, I’ve not crashed so the bike isn’t trashed and nor I am. Plus it was great to have the bike setup in the paddock on Monday, looking great for the fans to look at, take pictures with and ask questions about.

With two bikes out of action, The Performance Solution will be doing a settler job of getting Trudy Triumph out of semi retirement ready for Round 3 at Donington Park on the 21 / 22 May. Unlike Silverstone and Oulton Park, I’ve raced here lot and love the place, so can’t wait to finally racing on some familiar tarmac!

Thanks to my family based team and their efforts over the last few rounds. They also shoulder these tough weekends and I know we’re all driving for better things to come.

A change is coming…
